Hello and welcome!
As you may have guessed if you’ve poked around this site enough, I have a few obvious interests: plastic, oceans, and food (plus, raising chickens). If you head over to “About the name” you’ll see why plastics strike such a chord with me.
While my formal education is in marine sciences, I’m increasingly interested in the power of good stories to help lead us to a better future.
I feel really lucky to be able to work in a way that supports small businesses and groups to amplify their messages. All of the people I get to work with are doing such good work making this world a better place and they deserve a leg up!

I’m a freelance sustainability writer! I help businesses, non-profits, and individuals share their sustainability stories and assist with writing, research, and social media. If you think communication is important but you don’t have time to do it, you can ask me!

Other fun things to know about me
- Seven In the Ocean started as a way for me to talk about plastic pollution and has now grown into a fun and fulfilling freelance sustainability writing business.
- I currently reside in beautiful British Columbia but I’m actually from the States and have lived in Texas, western New York, Vermont, Hawaii, and Maine.
- I believe chickens are the answer to all of life’s woes.
- I also believe community and locally grown food are essential for feeding the body, mind, and soul.
- When I’m not writing, I can be found tinkering with veggies in the kitchen, getting lost in my garden, adventuring around with Jan (my partner), or simply hanging out in the backyard with a glass of wine and our little flock of chickens (dubbed “The Lakeshore Hens”).
