It started innocently enough: I just wanted to find a home for several packages of almonds. All of a sudden, I was musing on our collective glass consumption and why we tend to stockpile jars.
In BC, Brita filters can be returned to TerraCycle for recycling through a program at the retail outlet London Drugs. But how does this work, exactly? We reached out to TerraCycle to learn more and they responded!
I was reminded today of the fallacy of recycling. (So dramatic, I know…stay with me – this one’s a thinker. 😇 ) One of my favourite refilleries in town posted a fun video to social media they made of their staff running away from plastic packaging as it chased them around the store. It made…
This is the power of a bottle deposit: Step 1: Collect & Sort Step 2: Profit Step 3: Invest (in your health!) The act of returning metal and glass for money is amazing (almost like magic), but it’s made all the more powerful when that handful of change is put right back into the local…
Dear Pilot, You tell me to “simply write” and so, I proceed. Something I’m mentioning in my paper is the concept of incentives a means to increase recycling effort. Everybody knows that…
I accomplished something tonight! It’s not quite finished and the table that I mention at the end is still in production, but basically I’ve written a brief history of plastics and started in on the thesis –> recycling. Comments, critiques and questions welcome! Please remember that this is a first draft and is extremely rough….
Another solution to pollution: turn our non-biodegradable non-recyclable refuse into something beautiful. Sure, it’s not being broken down and put into something new, but it’s not ending up in landfills and could serve a functional purpose. Check out a few artists I’ve discovered!
